Abstract

This study investigates the strategies employed by Yandaba gangs to cause violence in the Tudun Nupawa area of Kaduna Metropolis. The objectives are to examine the socioeconomic, cultural, and political factords86l,jx01s contributing to the rise of Yandaba gangs in the area. The Study also assessed the impacts of the yandaba thurggery to the Tudun Nupawa community and evaluate the interventions strategies that have been implemented to address the menace. A survey research design was used, and data was collected through questionnaires administered to 248 respondents within the Tudun Nupawa community of kaduna metropolis. The study achieved a 100% response rate, which was deemed excellent for analysis. Descriptive statistics, including frequency distributions, means, and standard deviations, were utilized for data analysis. The findings revealed that poverty, unemployment, weak law enforcement, and political manipulation are significant factors that contribute to the rise of Yandaba thurggery in Tudun Nupawa area. In addition, Yandaba gangs employ strategies such as intimidation, the use of weapons, and alliances with political figures to maintain their influence. The impacts of this gang violence include fear, insecurity, disruption of economic activities, increased school dropouts, and significant loss of lives and property. While several interventions, including police actions, youth empowerment programs, and community mediation efforts, have been implemented, the study shows varying levels of effectiveness. The research recommended that enhanced law enforcement, community led initiatives, and the provision of sustainable economic opportunities as essential steps toward mitigating Yandaba violence in tudun nupawa area of Kaduna town.
